Grow as a coach

The best way to grow as a coach is to watch someone else do it. We’ve compiled a library of our actual, live labs for you to use as real-time training.

To get the most out of these videos, treat them like a practice run! Follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Print & Prep — Print out a blank feedback form and fill it out as you listen to the teacher present.

  • Step 2: Pause & Reflect — Pause the video right before the Teach Equip Coaches respond. Ask yourself: What encouragement does this teacher need, and what growth areas would I point out?

  • Step 3: Listen & Compare — Resume the video, listen to our coaching portion, and compare it to what you would have said.

  • Step 4: Check Your Work — Open the folder's completed feedback forms to compare your notes directly with the Teach Equip Coach’s form.

Example Feedback Forms

Our feedback forms are designed to help you know what to look for as someone is teaching.

  • The first page provides you a space to take notes on the message and give feedback on delivery.

  • The second page provides a check list of things to look for in the area of content, organization, and other more advanced teaching skills.

  • You’ll also find a section provided to help you call out a teacher’s strength and help them begin identifying their unique voice.

We provide examples so you can see how we use these forms. We have changed the form a little over the years, so the examples you see might not be an exact match with our current form.

These are coaching videos we provide to leaders who license our 7-month program. But we felt they would be really helpful to anyone who’s facilitating labs. We want to pass on everything we’ve learned over the years!

FAQs

  • Anyone already teaching the Bible to others, anyone who you suspect might have a teaching gift, anyone you may want to vet first before giving them a platform to teach others.

  • We recommend at least 2 coaches who can fill out feedback forms and give verbal coaching and feedback. Teaching is subjective so it’s important to have more than once voice. But lab is a wonderful learning experience for anyone watching. So invite other Bible teachers. Invite anyone you would like to teach in a future lab. Honestly, you can invite anyone to come, so long as lab remains a safe environment for each teachers to try new things and grow from their mistakes.

  • Yes, you are welcome to invite anyone you want to join you on the call by sending them the zoom link information.

  • Nope! Lindsay and Kelly make this coaching available to anyone.

  • No. Men and women are welcome to sign up for a lab spot to receive coaching from Lindsay and Kelly.

  • Lindsay and Kelly will both provide written and verbal feedback. No one else on the call will be allowed to provide comments.

    Our graduates and current students might provide written feedback for their own continuing education. If Lindsay and Kelly feel that those feedback forms would be helpful to you (after reading through them), we will send them along as well.

  • We only have time for you to teach for 20 minutes. Here are a few options: teach the part of your message you MOST want feedback on. We’ll give you a minute at the beginning and the end to give us context for that part of your message.

    Give a shorter version of the teaching by cutting out stories, examples or intros/outros, so that we get the full picture of your outline, flow, etc. But make sure at least one section of the teaching remains as is. We want to get a sense of who are as a teacher.

    You can book 2 spots in the same lab and then we can give you the full 40 minutes to teach.

  • Those are the only times we have available this year. You can consider bringing Teach Equip to your church and learning how to host your own labs!
