A place to teach the Bible and receive coaching. It provides growing Bible teachers a way to practice and grow, to try new things and discover their unique voice.

We suggest having 2-3 teachers in each lab. Teachers feel more comfortable when they’re not the only one plus communal learning is part of the synergy of the lab. Everyone learns from the teaching and feedback.

We’d encourage you to invite as many people as you want, so long as your teachers are comfortable with it. We always want teachers to be at their best so their unique voice can shine through and they are in the best environment to grow. But labs are such a wonderful learning experience for everyone, so we always encourage inviting others to attend. You might consider inviting those in your church who have an interest in teaching but aren’t ready yet.

Knowing how to give feedback can be really intimidating but we’re sharing our coaching experience of nearly a decade with you! With the lab kit you have access to recorded feedback from Kelly and Lindsay in real labs as well as written guides that show you how to use our feedback form, what to be listening for in your teachers and how to prioritize your feedback so participants can grow.

You don’t need any special tools or equipment for labs. When you do a lab in person, all you need is a dedicated space where everyone can meet and someone can stand and teach. Bibles, pens and our feedback form is all that is needed. A music stand, table or podium is helpful for the teachers.

Yes! You can gather people online for a lab! We find using a meeting app like Zoom or Google Teams works great. If you chose to do a lab online, we have a few suggestions to make the experience as beneficial as possible. We provide an online lab suggestions that you can reference.

We suggest that your labs have 2 designated leaders to start off. Having two leaders ensures that feedback is more than the personal preference of one person, and allows teachers the benefit of hearing from people with different styles and experiences. The longer people teach in labs and learn from feedback, you can invite participants to give feedback too.

While previous teaching experience is helpful, it isn’t required. You will be given everything you need to facilitate successful labs including recordings from our own labs to help you learn and grow. We’d encourage you that if you don’t have any previous experience teaching, find a co-leader who does or invite pastors, and experienced teachers to give feedback in your lab.

We encourage you to take on a lab rhythm that works best for leaders, first. Take on a rhythm of facilitating labs that works for your life and then invite people in. Let your goals shape your rhythm. For example, if you want to create a culture of feedback and hold open labs for whoever wants to jump in, you may want to have labs every 6-8 weeks year round. But if you have a focused group that is smaller, you may want to do labs every twice a month for a shorter period of time and only offer it once a year.

While it’s helpful to be familiar with the passages people will be teaching, we know it’s nearly impossible to have the time to know all of them well. That’s why we created the Passage Guide. This easy-to-reference guide will give you a summary of each passage assigned, its historical context, its main themes. The Passage Guide can easily be read the day of a lab and minimize your prep time.
